The Ukrainian actor, Bohdan Stupka, played the role of Bohdan Khmel'nytskyj. The story is based on the novel by Henryk Sienkiewicz, so it is understandable that it is full of historical inaccuracies. Ukrainian Kozaks are portrayed in a bad light and a couple of Polish characters are playing good old boys. It is basically a romantic epic and the viewers are not informed about the background or the rules of disinformation followed. The main female role is played by by Isabella Scorupco, not unknown in Sweden. The movie could only be recommended because it brings up the subject of the uprising of Ukrainians against Polish rule.
